Selfish

I forgive you and all of your ways..

I'll try hard to forget..

The days..

Where, to me, you showed no compassion..

No love..

No emotion or feeling..

Other than spite and hate..

I will keep in my memory..

Locked away with the key wading..

The times you've shared your laugh with me..

Where we'd watch movies..

Spoke of dreams..

And went into depth about our feelings..

Pertaining death, religion and fate..

The moments you allowed me to believe that we held a connection..

No hard feelings..

Promise I'll agree to be understanding..

You were broken..

Trying to find mending..

I forgive you..

Not that you asked for my forgiveness..

I'm not sure how much you care..

I forgive you, nonetheless..

Because I need this..

This is a start to my new beginning..

Where I'll love me wholly..

And depend on me solely..

Where I'm guided backward on the path to my heart..

And hold the capability to move forward even when it's dark..

This is a story created and meant for me..

You're just a microscopic detail within it..

That may seem sort of selfish..

But I have to learn to love me more..

For you displayed to me..

Why one of one's trait should never be selfless.

Nice. I've been here before. It's pretty hard to get over the person that has caused the hurt, and to get over opening up your heart to someone that has caused hurt. I know the moment I learn to let go of someone and to treat them the way they've treated me (usually unintentional), I look back and wonder why I was so giving and attached to the person in the first place?

It's natural, it's in our bodies to attach. if people took that into consideration it wouldn't be such a hardship. but thanks so much. glad you enjoyed. we grow from going through these things, so it's not such a sorrowful thing that you're able to relate.

"locked away with the key no where to be found" - I found this line too cliché for an otherwise personal and real-sounding read.

well I didn't really ponder on that line much. I was just stating that I didn't want to lose the good when I tried hard to forget the otherwise. Knowing everything wasn't all bad is what keeps people hopeful. Not sure how I'd reword it. Let's hear your suggestion

hm, yea so what your saying refers back to my initial critic- this story/poem is real. You spent time on the other lines. That one is distracting because it doesn't have your "voice" like the others. My suggestion would be to cut it or cut it down to "locked away" only.

wading, as in wading away, down stream... that has imagery! and "hmmm." My overall opinion is still that "the key" bit is cliché. However, I like that edit- and it's your poem! so do as you like :)

Oh I understand what you're saying now. I'm going to edit it with that now, but if I come up with something better I'll edit it again. It's a working progress. But thanks for all of your help.
