Red

Red

A Poem by Nancy

I see of red

in the eye of an oppressed

In the heart of a wounded

In the frailty of an abandoned child

In the rawness of a bruised hide

In the cheap condemnation of an innocent

Woe to them who keep themselves

Whose dignity has been kept on shelves

May they never go rusty having no oil to lubricate

Cast in stones for the pride of self, inspiring self hate

Who knows not any style nor ways to please?

I see red

On the white sheets

On the heart that smiles as it takes the step

On lips that captures the serenity

On the tongue that bites the layers off

Hail to them who held it all

Bestowing on thee who is willing to watch them crawl

Even though the world has deemed them dumb

You have become more than a chum.
