Her home is a prison

Her home is a prison

A Poem by Nancy

The break of dawn brings renewed hope

Oh !this day will be the last… today the die will be cast

What will be the reward…? The hand of God or the devil’s fork

For her home is a prison

No more she reasons

Many-a-night praying the children wouldn’t listen

But a locked door is a wall to those who have no key

Many-a-night her voice sweet and clear as a banshee's

Shattering the illusion of the perfect picture on the night stand

Gorged and gagged as the prisoner she so claims

Now she hopes to do more harm than maim

For death is a wife to a man whose heart is in chains

A sad story in the poem. Woman are abused everywhere. I have three daughters. I told them to never allow a man to hurt you. So far, so good. This is a difficult topic. Woman need shelters and safety to escape abuse. Today shelter are few. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Thanks Louis for reading..It is appalling how many women are battered and abused in marriages, I read an article on how it differs in countries but the end result is sane, the woman is broken.

"But a locked door is a wall to those who have no key" -- Great line!
The pain is felt here..

I really like the tone, the pace, and the flow of this piece. You have some great imagery as well. I get a sense of physical abuse and her act of defiance is death, but death to whom? Herself or him? I get the feeling it is him since she "hopes to do more harm than maim". Keeps me reading it over and over again to pick out the little details. And I am still not sure I am grokking all of this. But that's a good thing in some ways.. I keep re-reading the poem. I am going to RR this to my friends.. perhaps some of them will have other opinions to share with you.
