Tyler ExcerptA Story by MediocreMemoryThis is just a piece I typed up for a character in the story I'm working on. I will try to get one up for each character.“This is insane. Why would we even try to get a God-fearing Colonist to join this crew? Why would we want to?” Billy shook his head and sat in an empty chair as he spoke. Tyler looked up from his book, tilting it slightly so that Billy could see the title. It was a dog-eared Bible. “Sorry, I didn’t know.” He apologized sincerely. Tyler laughed, “It’s ok. I don’t think there’s a big man sitting at a throne in the sky.” “Then why do you read that?” Billy questioned, pointing at the book. “Well, I think there are angels and demons. They aren’t some flying beings in the sky or horned beasts from hell. I think they walk among us, influencing people in good or bad ways.” “What do you mean?” “Well, there are angels, demons, and humans. We all appear the same but there are souls all seek something different. For example, I look at a person and judging by their actions, they are either holy or unholy.” “So you mean, everyone falls under one of three categories for you?” Tyler nodded. “Then what am I to you?” Billy looked smug. “You? You’re just human. Which isn’t bad, it just means you don’t influence anyone for better or worse. Tell me, have you done immoral things?” Billy was silent. “But you did them for moral reasons. So you’re not either. You meant good though you did bad.” “Does everyone have an angel and a demon that influence them? In your view, I mean.” “Yes. For example, my demon is Mason. Not because he does immoral things but he gets me to indulge in vices.” “Hmm.” Billy was quiet for a moment, then said, “What about your angel?” Tyler smiled, “That’s Raleigh.” © 2010 MediocreMemoryAuthor's Note
