“Alex!” he heard as he continued his run down the battlefield. When he turned to look in the direction the shout came from, his feet got caught and he tumbled to the ground. Barbs pierced his skin as he fell head first into the crudely fashioned rope. He felt nothing and let his body go limp.
The voice came again but this time it was closer. He couldn’t see through the blackness slowly covering his eyes from the blood that was pouring down his face into them. He felt someone pull him to his feet and as he was lifted, his flesh was ripped open to let the small barbs break free.
“Alex, don’t worry. I’ll get you out of here.” the voice sounded terrified and Alex knew that they were still being pursued. He was beginning to feel dizzy and he tried to look down at his chest but he could see nothing but red. He wasn’t sure if it was because of the blood streaming down into his eyes or if it were that his chest was that torn.
The man threw Alex’s arm around his neck and began to hurry down the path he had intended to take before his fall. Pain started to replace shock and he heard himself scream. The man ran faster and Alex began to limp under his own weight as he tried to keep up.
