50 Tons

50 Tons

A Poem by Tim Lion

In the twisted hot lights of sunken funk

We dance like drunken Shaolin monks

Two jellyfish moving through the stiff herd

Dysfunctional beauty is melting glass

In a cathedral formed of thoughtful words

And a naked angel carved upon the mast

The bare truth shall set you aflame

Sexy Jedi mystery defilers

Knock a hole through treasure-pilers

Red Rover wags his great humanoid head

A thousand skyscrapers come hard to crash

Wagons stacked high with the happiest dead

Wild confetti storms of crimson and ash

Your deep roots shall give you a name

Allemande with Lady Liberty

Salamander crawl to be free

Down on your belly like broken plane

Your wingspan clipped down by the master-plan

You can go crazy, and still be quite sane

If you never show the cards in your hand

Your lies shall bury your dead hopes

Sweet little demon has her red dress on

Swing like a hammer from beyond

Tells me to focus on the current task

Bask in the darkness that outshines the sun

Sip a little freak-show from the hourglass

My unbreakable smile weighs almost fifty tons

Your evil ties shall noose your rope

par excellence

your imagery reminds me of the movie coming out, "Sucker Punch" only much better.

I'm still trying to figure out the relationship between your imagery and the characters that dwell within and without...

but then it wouldn't be interesting without the enigma. eh?
good stuff.

What is very strange, is the fact I have just written a poem featuring Lady Liberty... wires crossing in the poetic ether...

I love the play of sound in this poem, such a grand manipulation of word, and meaning within the rhymes. I'm with SK on the opening lines. They made me smile out loud.

Sometimes, when the moon presses her naked chest to my window, and my wife is carving the value from trash scraps, I feel like I may never be able to outshine my finite timeline. And the worst part is.. more..
