Summer

Summer

A Poem by Melissa

She is calloused feet and golden skin
She is honeysuckle and salt
She is a time before there was sin
and freedom unfettered by fault
She is adventure on knobby knees
She is wild tangles of hair
She is climbing up the oldest trees
to smell the sweet summer air

Being a toddler is the most wonderous and magnificent time to be alive. The sorrows, disappointments, and tragedies go right over their heads. Everything in life is new. I would love to be back in those days again. Your poem reflects a perfect time in life. Great poem, Melissa. :)

Wish all summers were like yours
This year was rain - Heavy and prolonged
Pleased we live high on a hill
We get the wind but not the flood

Thank you, Kelly!
You could easily substitute a few of the "shes" for "hes?" Then it would include mothers to your poem and bond hte family unit more, per say.

Lovely ways to describe summer. Brought back many childhood memories. Delightful lines Melissa.

:) Thank you Chris!
Love your summer Melissa
Instead of climbing trees
And scuffing my knees
I/we would prefer
A stiff climb upon a mountain path
3000 feet or more
A view as far as the eye can see
Warm sun: a cool up draught from the lake below
sit upon a stone to have lunch
Take a few camera shots
Walk along the ridge
Before returning to low ground

Or maybe just sit in the garden > Ice cream and lemonade

A wonderful poem Melissa. Good to know the feel of Summer. The days of Summer. Days, where we need to be barefoot and with family and friends. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

Thank you for the kind review!
I love personified versions of the seasons, and this is beautiful. It gives me a deep feeling of nostalgia and, despite being a winter person, makes me wish summer would never end. Thank you so much for sharing!
