Young LoveA Poem by Michael (Letters and Lifelines)
Forget the things you expect.
Take your tired thoughts, And lay them all down to rest. Wallow in her words, Guessing what she means, While seeing who goes higher, On the old playground swings. And try to steal a touch, While you're skipping rocks. And let her win the race, Down her grammar-school block. And going home too soon, With everything to say, Will leave your heart throbbing, And wishing that you stayed. She said, smiling... Tell me all the things, That you keep hiding. Tell me all the reasons, Why you keep trying. Tell me all the things, That keep you up at night... You'll be alright. You just have to take a chance, If you want a little romance. It can be so daunting, And so misconstrued, To think of what she's saying, When she's shoving you. It can be so dangerous, Like no going back, To grab her while playing tag, On her high school track. And try to lean in close, Just to breathe her air. And look for random strings, Just to touch her hair. And going home too soon, With everything inside, Will really leave you shaking, And doubting you'll survive. She said, smiling... Tell me all the things, That you keep hiding. Tell me all the reasons, Why you keep trying. Tell me all the things, That you're afraid to do... I get scared, too. You just need a little shove, If you want a little love. She said, smiling... I'll be what you think of, When you wish for love.
