Serenity does grow from forgiveness. What messes us up and stops us from being that person is not seeing the times when we have to forgive ourselves, for being taken in, fooled by others or blaming ourselves for what others are really to blame for. Being easier on ourselves would certainly help.
I like the brevity of the piece. It leads us into reflecting on what we can do, not what we can't.

It true that once we forgive the "other," we must then go to work on forgiving ourselves. And sometimes it's not without pain. I think what surprised me most when I chose to forgive was that I still hurt. That's the part that heals only with self forgiveness, patience and time. Again, thank you!
forgiveness is important, and it works to an extent...but sometimes we do it so many times, but certain people just never change, no matter how hard we wish them to.
beautiful piece, Mary.

Somehow the concept of forgiveness has become synonomous with instantaneous emotional and/or spiritual healing, when in truth it is only the necessary ingredient to start the process of healing. At least that is what I've come to learn.
