Serenity does grow from forgiveness. What messes us up and stops us from being that person is not seeing the times when we have to forgive ourselves, for being taken in, fooled by others or blaming ourselves for what others are really to blame for. Being easier on ourselves would certainly help.
I like the brevity of the piece. It leads us into reflecting on what we can do, not what we can't.

It true that once we forgive the "other," we must then go to work on forgiving ourselves. And sometimes it's not without pain. I think what surprised me most when I chose to forgive was that I still hurt. That's the part that heals only with self forgiveness, patience and time. Again, thank you!
I love this fleeting piece! I believe poetry in some particular cases captures its direction from what isn't said. Again even your unwritten words are eloquent. Another well woven blanket of passion for the craft of writing, my dear friend.
One of life's great ironies is that we are too young & foolish & stubborn to finally let go & let serenity into our lives until we're way beyond the years when it might've been quite useful to us! Your thoughts are much admired & true. Not sure how to interpret the last line, tho. (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

You know when someone asks a question for him/her self but doesn't want people to know it's really for him/herself? They often say, "asking for a friend." That is what the speaker in the poem is doing here.

I used to think that forgiving someone would result in emotional healing. But I learned that it's just the necessary beginning of healing. And healing leaves scars, but try to remember that scars are stronger than the original tissue.
It is said that if you forgive, you can find serenity. There are times, though, that it is very difficult to forget...to get beyond the emotional pain. "Blisters of the heart" are difficult to heal. Short, but with much meaning and easy to relate with. I liked it. Lydi**

I think Forgiveness is the best we can do, more for ourselves so that we can have closure after someone hurts us. After that’s done, I find I have to bury the hurt in my heart where it does leave scars- no salve, I’m afraid. Love your beautiful and thought- provoking poem. Happy, Healthy. Hopeful New Year wished to you and yours Mary!
