Love Extinguished

Love Extinguished

A Poem by Charles E.McManus
"

A Womans Heart cooling in a selfish relationship

"
Her heart cooled like an icy lake in winter
Her hands that were once soft and open now clenched and stiff in her lap
Jaw set and soft supple lips that once delivered kisses of sweet summer honey; pulled tight and silent
Once a burning cauldron of passion waiting to be poured no longer boils with loves feverish pitch
Her voice once smooth and sultry now silent and empty
Oh how once she glowed with loving fire
But he took it away from her
Pulling her light away ember by ember
Asking too much too often; she gave her warmth away till the fire inside was gone
now she stands ; cold, quiet and unflinching
For no spark will start another blaze
No fuel will feed the fire
Alone is safe, Alone doesn't need
Alone she must be

I enjoy your style. I can feel the pain of the woman in the poem. You described a phenomenon that happens to many women (and men, I would imagine) in a way that is realistic and even reverent. Thank you for sharing!
