Fever (poem)A Poem by Alaska
This loneliness claims me, and what often shames me.
So I’ll drudge across the desert, searching for a beating heart. Lover, can you hear me coming? When will I be able to fall into your open arms? I’ve stumbled upon mirages that were only cacti, that pierced me with their thorns. I should have known that we couldn’t weather the storm. Now that I’ve had a taste of darkness, let it mark me with it’s ink, I’m not sure how I’ll be able to scrub it off this skin. I’ve been insecure, falling onto the tongues of strangers, seeking comfort in the taste of sin. The apple can be so bittersweet when you pluck it too soon from the tree. © 2011 AlaskaAuthor's Note
