Find me (poem)

Find me (poem)

A Poem by Alaska

When will I learn my lesson?

How much more can my heart take before it stops hurting?

I can't bury my past as well as I did the knives that were stuck in my back;
I need to stop giving people second chances.

Maybe someday this wishbone will break and a backbone will grow new and sturdy in its place, it will give me a whole new posture.

Maybe someday I'll stop taking so much bullshit from impostors.

If you were to take my picture, it would only be worth one word:

Lost.

You could put my picture on a poster, and hang it in a dusty window of long forgotten buildings-

That's the only place where I'll be recognized.

"Have you seen this girl?"

And all of those who have ever known me will answer,

"She's no longer with us."

Humanity is only a lie that has been very well rehearsed,

each word that fell from your lips into mine tasted of dirt,

which is exactly what it was worth.

Every time I fall, it brings a new scar;

Soon I'll have a detailed work of art on my arms.

Frame me in gold, but I don't deserve anything more than bronze.

There are too many consequences for having a selfless heart.

If you look hard enough, you can find me in notebooks, hiding within the torn out pages.

You can find me in miscellaneous places, in the most hideous of faces.

Like a reel of old black and white film, my life has been moving in slow motion,

distorted and colourless, played until it burst into flame.

Learn to forget me.

Give it time...

Time is all that we have, anyways.

Author's Note

Alaska
Honestly, this isn't my best piece. The only reason I'm posting it is because there are a few lines I really enjoy.
