I'm not who you thought I was (lyrics)A Poem by AlaskaLyrics for the acoustic/indie band I'm working on, She Hates The Bird.
I’ll never tell you how much I cried that night,
or how far I walked until my legs buckled and collapsed. In the middle of the street I had fallen on my knees, I had cursed your name with every miserable, shaking breath. Eventually you’re going to forget me, so I’m one step ahead of you and already fading. If I’m so important to you, then why do I feel invisible? It has been quite some time since I’ve taken this kind of fall. If I’m just a disappointment, then I’m sorry for it all. I’m sorry for it all. I always knew that I wasn’t good enough, I wasn’t good enough for you. Tonight is the night we stop telling lies, and start to accept the truth: I’m who you never wanted, but who you thought you needed. I tried to force the words out that we both always knew, and instead you just sighed and walked away. Your eyes are speaking all of the words that my lips have ever failed to say. I tried so hard, but there is no hope for us. So this is how it ends… This is how it ends… When we say goodbye this time, this time we mean it. From dusk to dawn, and then back again, all that these days do is blend. I watched you from behind the curtains, my fingertips pressed against the frosted glass. Like the seasons, your emotions have passed. When it rains, you leave me standing in the downpour, stone heart weathering in my own reckless hands. Fragile things break, break so easily. This time we mean it. This is how it ends. This is how we end. (She Hates The Bird) © 2011 AlaskaFeatured Review
