I liked the fact there was that ounce of superficial sense of ownership of material items that we'll never be able to take with us to the other side. "Dont you dare mess up MY coffin, these things are expensive."

You stop caring less and less as you grow old. You become less materialistic and if there's no around you, you really don't care... after all, you are left with few days and all that is matter is some place where you would be buried.

I don't know what it says about me but I would very much so not want to be put to rest the tradition.. read moreI don't know what it says about me but I would very much so not want to be put to rest the traditional way my Western Culture almost makes mandatory. Primarily because the cost of the entire process is so financially inconvenient. I would want to spare my family any financial stress to deal with on top of their grieving process. Its pretty sickening how all the businesses that you deal with when you encounter a death in your family exploit the hell out of your vulnerable emotions for the sake of profit.
Not to mention the way they violate your dead body to make it "presentable" but you always look like a sub human looking ghoul. And for the blast time you ever will be seen by anyone. It can be traumatizing for some. I swear I'm going to write in my will I want an entirely natural funeral. Outside, by fire. Seemed selfish at first, assuming my family would want to go the convential route but I feel if anytime to be selfish, for the unselfish reason of preventing my family from taking a financial hit, would be in my last moments in this earthly body.
Jesus, I have writer's block currently yet I can write an unnecessarily long response on someone else's writing page... Goes to show my mind needed to purge itself of some words rather despartely. My apologies, man.

It's okay... when having writers block always write down what you feel, there is no need for plot or anything. Follow stream of consciousness technique and jot down your thoughts. I often do that and then send these draft to my friends for the edits. Once edited, I upload them on my blogs with due credits to the editor.
This is reality.
There could be different interpretations -
One handles the coffin so well to lay it down while probably ppl dint pay attention much when one was alive.
We are all educated & we can read 'Cigs are injurious to health' yet we are addicted to it.
People do all the nasty things possible in entire life & when death awaits they start worshiping god.
If it is other way round, we have seen how the world works & start disbelieving in the very existence of Almighty.
Whatever, the things are ain't they all leading to slow death. Be it death of life or death of beliefs.
Good you shared Mayank.
What a reality that can be so real to so many these days. So very sad but such a truth. No families and who actually cares. So, so sad. I hear you loud and clear, my friend......Kyam

Thank you, these things are seen and then unseen. Ignorance is good, but not always.
You have beautifully brought out how being idle makes us so restless and that we begin to see our coffin soon. "People have stopped knockin' on my door' - A harsh truth everyone has to undergo when old age sets in.
I recall reading a similar work from you that had dealings with the dotage. Both are amazing in their ways. We fight in the name of land, wealth and what not but get confined to a narrow casket with all desires, beliefs and struggles burnt to ashes at the end.
Nice work Mayank (y)
