Boston way of livingA Story by Mayachapter oneIts summer that means no school, No curfews and Sydney gets
to stay at her mothers house for how ever long she pleases. Sydney Is packed
and ready to go as she paces back and forth from her room to the front door
trying to keep and eye out for her mother. Her father and mother don’t really
get along they have total different views on the way people should be living
their lives. So Sydney tried to make it so they had to see and talk to each
other as little as possible. David, Sydney’s father is always telling Sydney to
do the right thing. “Sydney,
don’t forget to be in bed at a decent time, and to not walk around the city
alone,” David would lecture. Sydney as a good daughter would nod
her head and say “yes daddy, I will don’t worry,” But that was just the thing
David knew that her mother would let her do what ever she wanted. So he feared
for his daughter’s safety. David had once been a young teen boy and lived in
Boston city as well, he knew the trouble a young beautiful teen girl like
Sydney could them self’s into. Sydney was considered the really pretty girl in
today’s standards, she has silky long blond hair that was strait but curled at
the ends. Sydney has sea blue green eyes that have theses golden flakes in them
when she is happy. A car horn beeps Sydney’s face
lights up, she hugs her father, grabs her suitcase and heads for he door. “Sydney Don’t forget,” David gets
cut off. “I know dad Brush my teeth,” Sydney
shuts the door behind her. She puts her suitcase in the back of her mother’s
convertible Pontiac Solstice. Making sure that she has her IPod Before she shut
the trunk. The last time they got thirty minuets away and had to turn around
cause she forgot her IPod and her cell phone. All the way to Boston her mother
told her about the new Condo that her mother purchased. “I even had your room redone and
there will be someone waiting for you when you get there it’s a surprise”
Martha says. Martha and Sydney don’t have a mother and daughter relationship as
much at they do a friendship. Martha
still acts as if she was in her early twenty’s. Some days this annoys Sydney
but most days it doesn’t bother her. As Sydney’s mom pulls the car into the
driveway her mom gets real quite. “I know its our first night
together in a while but I hope you don’t mind I have a date with a man from
work today,” Her mom says looking at the steering wheel. “That’s okay mom, we can hang
tomorrow its Saturday and we can go out for lunch and chat,” Sydney reassures
her mom that she wasn’t mad and she wasn’t Sydney had her own plans she hasn’t
driven her car all school year and that was she wanted to do, she wanted to go
out around the town. Sydney’s Mom bought her a car for her sixteenth birthday,
but Sydney’s father wouldn’t let her get her licensee in Vermont so she
couldn’t bring it with her. Sydney pulled her bags out of the
trunk and made her way inside. “Your room is the door at the end
of the hall you even have your own bathroom,” Sydney nods to her mom and flashes
a smile. Sydney’s mother knows that her best friend is on the other side of
that door waiting for Sydney to open the door so they can continue with there
spend almost every single day together routine. Sydney’s best friend’s name is
Jordan. Jordan has this go getter attitude. Martha thinks that Sydney and
Jordan are good for each other. Sydney is this quite gets good grades but like
to have a good time girl, but Jordan is outgoing hyper partying girl. Jordan
and Sydney are the two most different people in the world but they are
inseparable. Sydney pushes the door open and
there stands Jordan in her normal half ponytail hair due, a tee shirt, and
jeans. Jordan doesn’t even carry a purse her idea of having everything she
needs is her car-keys and lip-gloss. Jordan instantly pulls Sydney into a hug. “Well hello to you to,” Sydney
says. “I’ve missed you so much and there
is so much we need to talk about,” Jordan says. “Is everything okay?” Sydney asks
searching for clues all over Jordan’s face. “Its fine lets not worry about it
now, How do you like your room you’re mom had me pick it out?” Jordan asks. “I love it,” Sydney putts her stuff
on the bed then pulls Jordan into another hug. “So what do you want to do
tonight?” Jordan asks. “I say we order a pizza, and rent
movies and just hang,” although that was not what Sydney wanted to do she could
tell Jordan needed her friend right now. “Okay why don’t I go get the pizza
and the movies while you get settled in,” Jordan offers. “Sounds good I’ll see you in a little while,”
Sydney gives Jordan another hug and starts to unpack her clothing and put it in
her closet Sydney really doesn’t need to bring her clothing with her she has
plenty at her moms but she does any ways. Sydney checks out her bathroom, and thinks
about what could Jordan possibly have on her mind that’s bugging her so much. Mean while Jordan is out getting
their favorite pizza Bacon. Over the school year Jordan found out something
really important in her life something that she fears will affect the way
Sydney looks at her. Jordan has never really been interested in guys and over
the school year found out she doesn’t like them at all she is interested in
girls, Jordan somewhere along the line always thought it was weird how she had
never had a boyfriend or a boyfriend never interested her. On her way back to
Sydney’s house she grabbed some movies at blockbuster. When she pulled up to
Sydney’s house she began to panic she knew what the out comes could be and the
worse one kept pounding in her head, but she forced her self to get out of the
car and go in with a smile. “One extra large Pizza and one good
chick flick,” Jordan says as she walks through the door. “Yum, It smells really good,”
Sydney says as she walks into the kitchen. Jordan Pulls out paper plates and
serves up some pizza they sit down at the kitchen table and begin to eat. “Jordan, are you okay?” Sydney
asks. “Yeah, why wouldn’t I be?” She
responds not looking at Sydney the whole time. “Because you won’t even look at me,
and you don’t seem your self,” Sydney points out the obvious. “There is something I really want
to tell you but don’t know how,” Jordan says with a serious look on her face. “What do you mean you don’t know
how to tell me?” Sydney asks. “Well I do know how to tell you, I
just don’t want to hurt our friendship by telling you,” Jordan was now looking
back down at the table again. “You’re my best friend there is
nothing that could change that,” She gets up and goes to sit by Jordan. “You can’t freak, but I’m gay,”
Jordan says searching Sydney’s eyes for any hope of a good reaction. Sydney
didn’t have a problem with being gay cause the true secret was that she really
like Jordan as well but had no plans of saying that to her tonight. “Okay, that’s okay,” Sydney pulls
Jordan into a hug, “you are my best friend and just because you’re gay doesn’t
change that.” “Really your not worried?” Jordan
pulls away. “Why would I worry?” “Thank you for not freaking,”
Jordan hugs Sydney. “I wouldn’t
be a good friend if I freaked,” Sydney says. “What did you get for a Movie?” “I got the
Sleeping dictionary it has Jessica Alba, and Hugh Dancy someone for each of us
to look at,” Jordan says laughing. Sydney Flashes a smile If only she truly
knew how I felt she thought. After they
finished there pizza Jordan popped in the movie, while Sydney through on some
shorts and a tank top. Sydney laid out some shorts and a tank top for Jordan to
wear as well. When she walked out into the hall she could see Jordan sitting on
the couch patiently waiting, Sydney began to do what she always does watch
Jordan and then started to wonder if Jordan ever watched her, shaking the
thought from her head she walks out and grins at Jordan. “I put some
shorts and a tank top on the bed for you, why don’t you go change while I’ll
get some drinks and popcorn,” Sydney offers Jordan. “Okay,
thanks,” Jordan replies. Jordan walks into the Sydney’s room and troughs on the
shorts and tank top, Jordan and Sydney has always worn each other clothing
before but now with Sydney knowing that Jordan was gay Jordan felt a little
odd. Jordan tried to make her self as normal as possible she didn’t want to
make Sydney feel odd. Jordan knows that she has feelings for Sydney, but
doesn’t dare tell her for that really will make things jacquard. Jordan folds her clothing and sets it in the
chair by the bookcase in a nice pile. She walks out to the kitchen and begins
to just watch Sydney. Sydney noticed Jordan out of the corner of her eye but
didn’t want to let Jordan know. Sydney got her answers Jordan was watching her
which made her feel a little more at ease knowing that she watched Jordan. She wants to tell Jordan about how she feels
about her, but doesn’t know if Jordan feels the same way. “Hey you
almost ready?” Jordan finally speaks up. “Yeah here
you want to carry your drink, and I’ll get the popcorn and candy,” Sydney says. Sydney and
Jordan find themselves sitting on the couch next to one another as Sydney and
Jordan watching the Sleeping Dictionary Sydney really starts to think that its
going to be a hard summer if she doesn’t tell Jordan how she feels, Jordan was
good enough and brave enough to tell Sydney. “Jordan,
can you pause the movie?” Sydney asks “Okay,
what’s wrong?” Jordan turns to Sydney with a look of concern and compassion on
her face. “There is
something I need to tell you but don’t know how you’ll take it,” Sydney says
looking down at the floor as if she had something to be ashamed of. “I totally
understand you feel uncomfortable around me.” “No! That’s
defiantly not it you being gay doesn’t make me feel odd at all,” Sydney says
grabbing Jordan’s hand getting Jordan to look at her. “The thing is that I
think I have feelings for you,” Sydney admits what she has had on her chest all
night. “Okay,”
Jordan spits out a little shocked. “I know you’re
gay in all I just didn’t know how you felt about me, I felt odd because I watched
you sit on the couch and the only thing I could think of is the way you smelt
and how it feels when I hug you,” Sydney says. A smile
plays across Jordan’s face, “I know how you feel you are the only real girl
I’ve had feelings for,” Jordan says holding Sydney’s hand a little tighter. “So what do
we do now?” Sydney asks “I know
what I want to do,” Jordan tries to imply. “What’s
that?” Sydney asks. “This,”
Jordan scotches closer places her hand on the side of Sydney’s face leans in
and places her lips against Sydney’s. For a moment Sydney feels totally frozen
but then her body melts into this warm puddle pulling Jordan’s body close to
hers they fall beside one another on the couch. Sydney pulls back to look at
Jordan. “What’s
wrong?” Jordan asks. “Nothing, just
that this time yesterday I would have never thought I’d be kissing my best
friend,” Sydney says “I know,
but you’re so beautiful I wouldn’t want to be laying with anyone else,” Jordan
says. Sydney so over struck with the emotions of happy and in love that she
didn’t have anything else to say she just leaned in and kissed Jordan again. Jordan and
Sydney just held each other till the movie was over lost in the moment Jordan
and Sydney went to bed falling asleep in each other’s arms. Jordan woke up to
Sydney moving the hair out of her face. Sydney
retracts her hand “Sorry I didn’t mean to wake you.” “Its okay,
waking up to your face has already made my day,” Jordan says giving Sydney a
kiss on the cheek. “What smells so good?” “I don’t
know maybe my mom decided to make break fast,” Sydney says. Jordan puts a cocky
smile on her face then swings herself over on her hand and knees putting her
body over Sydney’s. “Well then
let’s go find out shall we?” Jordan says. Sydney grabs Jordan’s waste and pulls
Jordan’s body down on top of hers “Lets,”
Sydney says, Jordan stands and pulls Sydney to her feet. Sydney throws on a
pair of flip-flops. They walk down the hall across the living room and into the
kitchen. They both take a seat at the breakfast bar; the kitchen table was
covered in food. Pancakes, Juice, sausage, and fresh cut up fruit filled the
air with sweet smells. A man comes in from the living room. “You too
must be Sydney and Jordan, I’m Luke your mother’s boyfriend,” Luke says as he
walks in and pours a glass of juice for Jordan and Sydney. “Hi, I’m
Sydney, and that’s my best friend Jordan,” Sydney says. “Well its
nice to meet you to, please help your self there is plenty and if you have any
request let me know,” Luke says with a grin. Luke walks out of the room, Jordan gives Sydney a funny look. “How long
have they been dating?” Sydney asks Jordan. Sydney may not live here during the
school year but Jordan still comes over to her house, Jordan lives with her
alcoholic mother and her father died a couple of years ago. “A couple
of months, but this is the first time he has ever spent the night,” Jordan says
as she takes a bite of pancake. “Hmmm she
has never brought a guy home before, she must be truly serious about this one,”
Sydney thinks out loud. “I don’t
know, but I do know I’m serious about you,” Jordan says trying to make Sydney
smile it worked She leans over and begins to kiss Jordan. Jordan and Sydney
don’t notice Martha walk in. “So I’ll
take it you too are not just friends anymore,” Martha says bluntly. Both Sydney
and Jordan Jump Sydney scared not knowing what her mother’s reaction to this
was going to be. Jordan just smiled knowing that Martha wasn’t going to have a
problem with it, because just about three months ago she told Martha that she
was into girls. Martha was actually the first one to find out about Jordan
being gay. “Mom I can
explain!” Sydney stands to her feet. “What is
there to explain? Do you love her?” Martha asks as she walks over and pours
herself a cup of coffee. “Yeah,”
Sydney says sitting back down with a little confusion. “Then what
is there to explain your dating and that’s fine,” Martha says blowing on her
coffee. “I talked
to your mom before anyone about me being gay,” Jordan explains to Sydney. “So you’re
okay with me, being gay though?” Sydney asks her mom. “Why
wouldn’t I be?” Martha turns the question around. “Okay,” Sydney
says totally convinced that her mother was okay with it. The only real thing now
was her father and step-mother are against it they think it is wrong and it’s
not the way it should be done. “How am I
supposed to break the news to dad?” Sydney asks her mother. “I say you
should move down here. I think that I should rent out a hotel room up in
Vermont you should go back up to your fathers for the summer and let him know
that you want to move down here and why you want to move down here,” Martha
gives her point of view. “What if he
freaks and says I can’t?” Sydney asks. “Well
that’s when I fight it, that’s when I take your father to court and I win the
custody battle, and I will win cause One I have a better Paying job and two I
don’t have the mental disability that your father has,” Martha says. Sydney’s Father is part mentally
handy caped so that’s why Sydney felt she should live with her father when her
parents got a divorce but now that he has a wife and someone to take care of
him she doesn’t feel so guilty. “Okay,”
Sydney says, “what is your take on this? Jordan you have been really quite this
whole time.” “You’re my
girlfriend I want you to be down here with me, but it’s your chose,” Jordan
says lasing her hand with Sydney’s “I want to
be down here with you to, and I think you should come up with us when I go to
get my stuff. I think that my dad deserves to know who I’m dating,” Sydney
says. “Okay I’m
going to Book the hotel room for three just incase your dad decides to kick you
out, I’m not saying he will but just in case,” Martha says. “Alright
I’ll call my dad and let him know I forgot something at home and want to come
get it.” “I’m going
to go get to work a little early to get some of the planning done, I’ll see you
two later and here this should get you through for today,” Martha says handing
Sydney some cash. “It’s
Saturday,” Sydney points out. “I got to
find some one to fill in for me at work for a couple weeks, and I got to make
reservations for the hotel I can do that better in the office at work. Don’t
worry you and I will get a day to just hang,” Martha says even tough that
wasn’t Sydney’s reason for worrying, she worried because her mother worked a
lot she was actually always at work Monday through Sunday. Martha walks over
and places a kiss on Jordan’s and Sydney’s foreheads then walks out of the
kitchen. “Are you
sure you want to come? And its not that I don’t want you to come its just that
when I said that you should come you didn’t look to happy,” Sydney says taking
Jordan’s hands into hers. “I’m just a
little nervous I don’t want you’re dad to hate you because of me,” Jordan says
looking down at the floor in shame, Sydney lifts Jordan’s face. “I’m me no
one makes me who I am, I told you that I have feelings for you didn’t make me
do anything, so if my dad has anyone to hate for my actions its me,” Sydney
says making Jordan look into her eyes. “I know
it’s just hard I’ve never even met him and he’s going to hate me,” Jordan says. “It will be
okay I wont even tell him that we are dating till after you leave, Ok?” Sydney
asks. “Okay, I
say we go to the mall today just me and you we’ll do a little shopping. What do
you say?” Jordan asks. “Sounds
like a good plan,” Sydney says “Well
then lets go get dressed,” Jordan hops of the stool and offers her hand, Sydney
grabs Jordan’s hand and slides off the stool. Flash back Jordan and
Sydney met in second grade. It was a hot day and their parent’s old school
friends decided they should get together and go to the beach. Sydney was excited to go to the beach to try
out her new surf board. Sydney was told that Jordan’s father surfed so if he
went out with her she could go out further than normal. Sydney was so excited
when she found out she just assumed Jordan would love the water and surfing as
much as she did. Sydney and her family had just moved back to the east coast
when Sydney was one they moved to Hawaii during the time Sydney lived there
with her family she grew a love for the water and had a surf teacher by the age
of four. Jordan was
excited to work on her tan before going back to school, her friends had decided
to make a bet on who get the most tan before coming back to school. Jordan was
the typical city girl she was very materialistic and shopping ran in her vanes.
She got this from her mother and her friends mothers. Jordan straightened her
hair that day so she had no plans on getting anywhere near the water. Hearing
that Sydney’s mother was a fashioniesta she just assumed that Sydney would be
the same. © 2012 Maya |
