Dollar Store Courage

Dollar Store Courage

A Poem by Maxwell Ryder

A clerk
Gets high
On weed;
Bible’s
Opened
To First
Corinthians.
The thief
Comes in,
Points
His gun,
and
Demands
the cash;
She calmly
Opens
The till,
and asks,
“Don’t
you prefer
to be armed
with your Lord?”
Before
the sound
Of a report
Left
a trickle,
Spilling
the
Red letters
“Jesus wept.”
Out
Her
Temple.

Courage can cost nothing or everything. Really liked the telling of this!
