Red Giant

Red Giant

A Poem by Maxwell Ryder

I am an emperor,
But not of the universe,
Or a star,
But of Earth,
The blessed jewel
That's been cursed
By my subjects;
Boxed up
In her coffin,
And driven around
In her hearse.
I know not what
To do with my empress,
I have nowhere to bury
Her among the dead
Planets.
I am hoping for a
Red Giant instead.
