I hear you. That said, it's not a new thing, really, as my father spoke of Christmas in similar ways sixty years ago. Only my extreme exuberance and delight for the season kept him from ruining it for me. Despite what the money-grubbers try to do to Christmas, I think those of us who really care about it can keep the true spirit alive in our hearts and practice it the way we see fit.

There ought to be a law commercially exploiting religion/pagan traditions. Just thinking how much better sixty years ago sounds, and Christmas in the time of Cary Grant. There wasn't a whole lot of difference between Dickens till about the 1960s, I guess. But it went beyond the pale thereafter - really about the time Black Friday was innovated.
