Arboreal ode

Arboreal ode

A Poem by Maxwell Ryder
"

This poem was titled by fellow bard and talented friend Mr Dave Greenan of Tideswell. I have promised 10% of royalties to him - should this poem bring any.

"
Imagine what the trees have seen?
I’m not talking about the saplings,
but the redwoods and mighty oaks.
Murders committed under birches,
Hangings, rapes, and slashed throats.
People and villages that went up in smoke;
Graves of victims nourish the roots of giants down below.
Each Autumn, traumatized, they shed their tears
To garland barren holes,
Of those not loved, but loathed.

No wonder trees shed their leaves in autumn. After witnessing all that carnage they'd need to get some relief. I really like this different approach to trees. Nicely composed poem Maxwell. All good wishes.
