Deciduous trees

Deciduous trees

A Poem by Maxwell Ryder

I am a voyeur, of sorts;
I like forests of deciduous trees
Stripped bare of their leaves;
I look to the boastful conifer
Among them, a clothed emperor;
To him, they are fig-less Adams and Eves,
Humbled before their Lord,
Shivering in the bitter winter cold,
Waiting helplessly for Spring.

Very creative take on trees! As a tree lover myself, I'm enchanted by their various stages of dress & undress, but you've taken it to a new level of originality. We have many sycamore here & the startling white bark is so smooth, I just want to rub the wood with my hands -- which is what I'm reminded of in your playful opening! I also love the way you contrast the different species & use imaginative personification(((HUGS))) fondly, Margie

Witty take on the magnificence of evergreens. Not quite a lord though; the nuts they provide are paltry for wildlife and the deer like to tear my pines to bits during the rut. Nice flow to your poem. Good work. CD
