God Save the Queen
A Poem by Maxwell Ryder
I was esteemed
By my colleagues
Until I espoused
God Save the Queen;
Next came screams
As they took cracks
At my knees and
Hold of my throat,
Skinning me to the
Bone, making blood
Sacrifices to the
Occult, in a circle
Among the trees,
And white canopied
Sheets with eyeholes
Bohemian grove
Meets Appalachia:
A satanic wet dream.

This is a puzzling message . . . I'm sure I'm missing some of the meaning, but I still very much enjoyed reading your vivid & straightforward writing, as well as guessing at what this could be referring to. I suppose it's a very original way to suggest that no matter how innocent a muttering may be, there will always be others nearby who completely misunderstand and/or routinely take things out of their intended context, always so ready to rain down hell upon those who are different *sigh!* Brilliantly fresh details like nothing I've seen!
