Two digits can be...

Two digits can be...

A Poem by Maxwell Ryder

Two fingers flash the world
One index, one middle,
Splayed in the letter V;
But upside-down
They make the man walking
On my old yellow pages;
And they are the shape
Women’s legs go when men
Are on a mission to please,
Or if you stick your tongue
through, cunningly,
it becomes harder to breathe;
So ironically, together,
they can make peace.
Individually, however,
One points and orders,
Or says, God’s watching,
“Don’t you dare!”
The second tells people
To go f**k themselves,
“I don’t give a care!”
The two fused is pagan speak
for Jesus,
Or a substitute for phallus;
And all twisted up
is the sign of good luck,
like two snakes copulating,
is Christian to ward off
Evil, a cough or a sneeze,
Or to tell a white lie
One didn’t mean.
Oh, the symbology
Two digits can be!
