Today, I saw monkeys reading
Primates pouring over Plato
Chimpanzees reading Nietzsche
Gorillas waiting on Godot.
S**t, we’re done for, Lord.
We’ve no room in the Congo,
No lowland forests to roam,
No zoos for us sapiens
In the coming storm -
Monkeys have their hands
On the nukes.
A silverback beats his chest.
I awoke in a hot sweat,
Wiped my brow, and said,
“Phew, fake news.”
It isn’t planet of the apes,
just yet.
