Beget or begot?

Beget or begot?

A Poem by Maxwell Ryder

To beget, or begot?
What befits is not in what's fobbed off
The chicken or the egg was first wrought?
Some ripostes don't begin or end
Meriting response;
Questions can't be conceived
Without examining the motive of the questioner's cloth;
Ignore the generic bent of answers,
and wont of an ignorant lot,
Who's willing to deceive in order to stop
Truth, sought
Until it comes up to speed
And acts upon knowledge
wisdom, deed, or forethought,
Addresses the sieve of its arguments,
Which may be bought.
