Coffee

Coffee

A Poem by Maxwell Ryder

Dear coffee,
You skyrocket my blood pressure,
You are no substitute
For water,
And your acidity
Leaves my esophagus
In shambles;
I feel as though I've
Swallowed a bramble.
I walk eyes-wide-open in my sleep.
I am so awake
I turn on the tv,
And at work the next morning,
I'm finally ready to sleep.
