Inside The Box

Inside The Box

A Poem by Maximoo
"

I always feel trapped, in my family, with my friends, in my choices, etc. I wrote this when I ran away from home for a few hours (just to a park)just trying to see what it was like, "Outside the Box".

"
I was born
Inside the box
But ever since that day,
I have learned
That in the box
I've never truly lived.
Who knows what I've
Missed out on
Inside my prison cell.
Who knows what I
Could've been
If I had known myself.
I was born
Inside the box
But ever since that day,
The walls that once
Restricted me
Have now began to fade.
Now I have started to see
The truth
For what it truly is.
For once in my life
I see myself
For who I truly am.
I was born
Inside the box
Never knowing me.
I was born
Inside the box
But now I'm finally free.

It's a universal theme, i.e. the feeling of being trapped, limited. And perhaps it's a natural reaction to somehow blame our environment for our predicament. But, aren't they (family, friends) trapped, too? We're all 'prisoners' here. I liked the poem, because it picks up on this feeling of a lack of freedom. But, it could be deeper maybe, if it went a step or two further and somehow came to the general conclusion that it's a part of life - not just one life. Is freedom a place, or a state of mind?
