ArcturusA Poem by MaxFor the brightest star I see when I look up on a Summer's night.
I look up and I see you shining there,
directly above me at this time of night. Brighter than anything else in the sky, my shepherd, you light my way into the cosmos where my imagination wanders among the galaxies. My body lies here, a terrestrial lump, while my mind roams the universe, seeing sights never before seen. I've seen the long ago, in a galaxy far, far away. I've watched the Enterprise floating through space. I've glimpsed the blue police box that's bigger on the inside. I've reached Serenity. In the vast expanse of the cosmos, earthly problems mean nothing. In the vast expanse of the cosmos, earthly problems are smaller than the smallest subatomic particle that the mind can fathom. Gravity anchors my 87 kilograms to this floating rock on which I live, yet my Nirvana hides in the heavens above, just waiting for my mind to stumble upon it behind some red giant or some quasar. Guide me there, oh brightest of stars, my shepherd, light my way, and help me find my peace. Guide me there, Arcturus, my King of the Universe, Lord of the Summer Sky, and help me leave this terrestrial lump behind, so that I can find my own Nirvana. Max Levites - 6/1/11
