Tongpu

A Poem by Mavis Bard

Could somebody please hand me a napkin?
I need ‘a wipe the rafter from my eye
It’s bleeding
I’m pleading

Wake up and smell the roses

The president says good faith I’m lackin’
The pain makes me hold my head and cry
It’s bleeding
I’m pleading

Wake up and smell the roses

Temptation pulls me down in to the dark side
My friends have thrown me into a landslide
Distress and girls turn me to their front side
There’s nowhere to run, no place to hide

Hey Mr. Counterargumentor
Where’s my justice? You’re my mentor
Just as it’s given it’s already taken
Uncle Sam says he gives freedom
But he never makes me happy
He can’t save my dying daddy
The voices get stronger
The hatred lasts longer
Great God above me,
God, do you love me?
God, do you know me?
Oh, please, can you show me love?

Wake up and smell the roses
