A Poem by Mavis Bard

It pushes you up
It pulls you down
If you stay on top
It’ll spin you around
Hand in hand
Eye to eye
We’ll ride this together
Until we die
But this ride spins too fast
I just want to get off
And you throw your head back
In a furious scoff
And if you’re still alone
I’ll come back around

You keep spinning around
And passing me by
With no though of a wave
Or even a hi
And now I’m alone
With my face in the ground
But the ride keeps on spinning
With a deafening sound
The horses are laughing
The chariots are racing
All I’m still doing
Is facing the ground
And if you’re still alone
I’ll come back around

It’s never easy
When your pride takes off
When you throw yourself off
It’s never easy
To get back on again
But baby I’ll do it right
I’ll hop back on the bench
And ride the night away with you
And if you’re still alone
I’ll come back around
