Reminisce

Reminisce

A Poem by m.c.Tafolla

I lost my dog today.
By my I don't mean like
something you can buy
at the store and throw
away after you don't
want it anymore, no.

He was more than
something you own.
He was irreplaceable,
he was someone to
me, he was my best friend.

I miss him.
You know what they say,
"you really never know
what you have,
until it's gone."

This is a feeling I know
all too well. It is not the
first time this feeling has
paid me a visit, it is such
a harsh inhuman way to visit
someone.

I wonder
what it could have been
that led him to escape.
Maybe he always meant
to return and simply lost
his way back, or
worse.

I sit here reminiscing those
priceless moments we shared.
Memories that will always
be remembered in the abyssal
depths of my heart.
Although we didn't
talk much we understood each other
and that's what I miss most.
