My Hellhound

My Hellhound

A Poem by Matyushkin

See him over there

See the way he stares

As I move from car to school to car to home

Following me like a dog wanting a bone

Why won't he leave me alone!

I don't want his depression, consuming

I don't want the darkness, looming

I don't want the gunfire, booming

Although...

I'm sad to say he cannot go

Because my blood through his veins flow

My ideas in his mind grow

My woe is his woe

Author's Note

Matyushkin
I'm not that sure about the "Although..." line. Does it upset the upset the beat of the poem too much?
