Mice Hating Mice

Mice Hating Mice

A Poem by Matyushkin

They fill the land

Loins chasing carrots on sticks

Question the taste they can't stand

They fill the nations

Geographers monolingual in German

Wondering why elsewhere they need translation

They fill the towns

Walking strings believing they're percussion

Inquiring about the absents of sound

They fill the houses

Mice hating mice

Wondering why the mirror shows a louse

They fill this room

Disfigured children trick-or-treating

Questioning the rash from costume

They fill my mind

Demons wearing wings

Do they think I'm still blind?
