Nihilism

Nihilism

A Poem by Matyushkin
"

"The modern mind is in complete disarray. Knowledge has stretched itself to the point where neither the world nor our intelligence can find any foot-hold. We are suffering from nihilism" ~Albert Camus

"

"Why is the sky blue?"

Billy boy asked his father

Who didn't answer, didn't bother

So Billy looked up and saw a bird

"You really don't know, you haven't heard?"

Said the bird, "the sky is blue because of its folks.

They work, work, work towards the great hoax

And cry, cry, cry when they die.

Yes, how they sigh!

When they say goodbye ,

When they're going to die,

They see it's all a lie."

Billy became sad; he looked up at his dad

To see if he thought what the bird said was bad

But he looked on ahead

As if nothing was said.

"Don't cry it's true"

Said the bird "and look, you're turning blue!"

And it was true, very true

Billy was turning blue, very blue

When his father noticed, Billy wasn't there

He'd turned to air.

I enjoyed reading this incredibly, I often wonder if we perceived life through the eyes of a child would we have more questions or more insight?
