AutismA Poem by MattThis poem is written about the difficulties in having autism and what it means for people with the condition. It was a way also of educating people on the subject!
They say children should be seen and not heard
But what if you're afraid to be seen and really need to be heard What if you don't know how to explain The feelings you have and your interior pain From the day we are born we are tutored through life Shown the ways of the world and how to be nice But our brains don't function the same way as yours Our bodies are different...like a boat with no oars We are labelled like cattle going to market We can't count to 50 and won't even pass it Doctors prescribe pills and procedures They think they are helping but all this deceives us So we grow older and wiser with every hour We soon come to realise the extent of our power The power to hear and write down our thoughts In the style of a poem or a collection of chords You see we might not be A grade students There may be many things that tend to confuse us But when we are given a chance to show our talents Many are amazed by our chemical balance If you took a jigsaw of 1000 pieces Mixed them all up and was asked to complete it How easy do you think you might find this challenge? How well do you think you would be able to manage? Its true that we like own own personal space Just take one look at the smile on our faces We will find a book...a portal of escape We will make our own fun we don't need to be placed We are really not that different to you So please don't judge us as we won't judge you Wouldn't it be boring if we were all the same I may have learning difficulties but that's ok © 2017 MattAuthor's Note
