French and Indian WarA Story by Matt GFrench and Indian WarFrench and Indian War At the beginning of the 1700’s French were exploring the North American interior while the English settled the eastern coast. By then the British had already more then one million settlers. Causes leading toward the war were British needed more land, alliances led to involvement in each others war, and they attacked each others forts. During the 1700’s, two more wars between French and England fueled war in their colonies. Each side was fighting for more land. Fur trade being stopped was a big problem causing the French and Indian war. George Washington was General Edward Baddock’s companion in 1755 when they marched toward the French at Fort Duquesne. Huron were allied with the French. Iroquois were allied with the English. Jesuit priests in France wanted to convert Native Americans to Christianity. Knowing good battle strategy's was key in the fight. Land was the main thing that everyone was fighting for. Many people were killed on both sides of the war. © 2012 Matt G |
