BackyardA Poem by Jesse LancasterA small poem I did for a perspective class I took the second semester of my freshmen year. It makes me smile, which I can't say many of my poems do. It's definitely different.Old
memories washed and blurred about with the new Breaking your limbs with careless weight Poorly
maintained and then, only so much,
and even I never expected the day that
I’d look up and say “No”. Where
at one time you begged me to climb now
I was free to better things, refine. And
although I bore down on you with my childish dreams, I’ll
never apologize because
you’re a tree. © 2012 Jesse LancasterReviews
