Relapse: Lying Like Liars & Burning Like Fires

Relapse: Lying Like Liars & Burning Like Fires

A Poem by Jesse Lancaster
"

You can't stay new forever.

"

Everyday I learn something new:

A lie. A secret.

Everyday I'm told something new:

Grow a pair. Get over it. Get up.

Today I realized something new:

We've all changed. Lovers. Friends. Acquaintances.

Today I'm done lying to myself.

Today I'm becoming new.

But I won't be new forever.

This vicious cycle continues, relentless.
I'll watch everything spiral out of control. Perfect.

I'll continue to let you enter my dreams. I can't let go.

Let go.

Author's Note

Jesse Lancaster
Written at the beginning of my therapy sessions. I prefer the second stanza over the first. It's a little naive in thinking that someone never cared, but that was my mindset at first. Unchanged from when it was written. Criticism is welcomed.
