Before the days of astral orderA Chapter by GideonWhen I was young I would wait till the night grew dark, the moon shone brightly and the house grew still. I snuck to the window, drew back the curtains and stared up at the glimmering diamonds up in the heavens wondering to myself what could possibly be staring back down at me. I did not know the names of the stars but I did know quite clearly that my midnight dreams might come true if I wished hard enough on the brightest of them all. Of course, as I grew older stars lost their sparkle but they never crash landed into my house in angry recriminatory fire. The youth of today learn all too quickly of the astrological significances to the stars above but the dwindling hope in dreams should never become a tired art. Children must still learn it is perfectly normal to wish at night and dream in sleep of wondrous things. Unicorns may not exist but children dream them into reality that only waking can destroy. Perhaps aging in a sense of wisdom and experience but when we stop wishing and dreaming we stop believing in our hearts' desires. We grow to exchange the dollar for the mud clot, coffee mugs for sippy cups and cigarettes for pacifiers. We hide behind dogmatic organization when the chaos of fantasy looms. We forget to see the inspiration and hope in dreaming because reality is just too dense a fog to cut through. This is not how we should spend our days, hollow and hindered by our own reluctance to chase our dreams and wishes into star filled skies. Faith in the uncertain, even when all knowledge and logic is against it and proof destroys the merit in it, should never be reluctantly released from our lives. We must learn to hold onto all we cherished when we were children. To look into the eyes of a child is to see the stars again, to see a world of possibilities we once had as well. We must teach our children to hope, to dream, to wish and to strive to find the faith to believe. Being stubborn gets us nowhere in life and we may find it so difficult to let go of our white knuckled strangle hold on what we believe to be true. Sometimes we think we must grow apart from our childish ways to grow at all but this is not true. Dreams are meant to be followed, even if the rabbit hole doesn't give you a waiver to sign first. Have no fear, your dreams will take you to where you are meant to go. We must remember that what we dream for gives us more power than we can truly imagine. Did the people who created Facebook or Twitter have the blueprints to their design the moment they were born? They grew to learn the ways of the world, the needs of the people and the ways to make their dreams come to life. Now our society flocks to these sites in the millions, but they started with ideas and a hope for success. If we are to achieve anything in life we must first want it. If we are to love, first we must express these feelings for them to be brought to beautiful life. If we spend so much time hoping for everything to work out but we do not put in the effort to get the job done we have no room to complain about the failure of our desires. Our achievements in life are completely dependent upon our the belief we can do anything and our willingness to put forth the effort. Life is not handed to us on a silver platter and we should be glad for that. The laws of attraction dictate what we put out is what we get in return. Instead of admitting defeat due to bad luck we must learn to accept that our personal failures were birthed by our pessimistic attitudes. On the other hand, we must realize that optimism brings to us a world of positive energy and hope, leading us to achieve great things without fear of defeat. The world revolves regardless of how fast we run in the opposite direction so we might as well enjoy the ride and see how far we can get with a grin instead of a grimace. The next time you look up at the stars, make a wish. It doesn't have to be for something huge like the winning lottery ticket or digging up dinosaur bones in your back yard. Wish for hope, for faith, for inspiration to believe in your capacity to do great things. You may find wishing to be a breath of fresh air that you have needed for quite some time.© 2013 Gideon |
