Branches

Branches

A Poem by Christian Meffert
"

Wrote it like two years ago. Don't recall what it means. Take a guess.

"
On barren earth I laid
Motionless, dulled to the pain
My world about to fade
When lifeless, I chose to trade
For a seed that I planted that day

Life sprang to the surface
Held inside the soil was purpose
That fed the seed every thought deemed worthless
Till it grew past the surface
A trunk grew stronger for it was certain

It would sprout many branches
Offering me more chances
To look beyond what it enhances
To create advances
That while only earning glances

Made the world less barren

Life, in any sense, begins with a seed. A small hope. Before breaking through its shell to enter the world. It's interesting to consider what any of this could mean. A form of personal rebirth? The desire to continue living, even at Death's door? The felling of one tree, simply to allow its progeny to grow from the nutrients it leaves behind? Being so open-ended, this piece does pose a lot of different meanings. It certainly intrigues the inner writer in me.
