Lilly

Lilly

A Poem by Masq
"

National Poetry Month Challenge 5/30 Lilly is a short poetic story of a young boy who meets the girl who he would eventually marry. I hope you enjoy it. :)

"

   She sat next to me

on the first day of school

Without a doubt

she was the most beautiful thing

 I had ever seen

Her hair was the color of sunshine

And her eyes where as blue as the ocean

She said her name was Lilly

I remember thinking that her name

was perfect for her

because she was as beautiful

and delicate as a flower

I can’t explain the feeling that would

come over me whenever she would smile my way

all I know is that I never felt them before

I saw her sitting on a swing at recess

I asked her if she needed a push

We became the best of friends after that

We ate lunch at the same table

We played together after school

We became inseparable

Lilly loved to swing

And I loved to hear her laugh

As I pushed her high

Her laughter became my favorite song

She said I was the best friend she’d ever had

Then she kissed me on the cheek

My feelings for Lilly changed over the years

See, Lilly was MY best friend too

And I loved her

At first I loved her as a friend

We spent so much time together

That by the time we reached

Middle school she was like a sister to me

In high school Doug Matthews broke her heart

I wanted to break his neck!

But she quickly forgave him

He took her to the senior prom

Never had I seen her look so beautiful

I leaned against the gymnasium wall

and watched them dance

He whispered something in her ear

She laughed….her laugh

“My” laugh….

A song that once played just for me

JEALOUSY

ENVY

And an indiscribeable feeling took over me

I knew what I had to do

“May I cut in?”

That was ten years ago

Lilly and I where married

Two years after college

Her smile is still as bright as sunshine

And she only have eyes for me

I love my Lilly

And she loves me

I would end it after "I asked her if she needed a push."
