June 11th, 2:23 amA Poem by Mason OlfRead meA bottle in one hand and a steering wheel in the other. Delicate fingers occupied, I hold your heart in my teeth. Palpitations undoubtedly caused by your fear of abandonment nearly break my jaw. "Don't you worry dear." I bite down harder. I adjust the wheel, turning ever so slightly to the left. My tires are now grazing the reflectors. The light bouncing keeps me awake as I take another drink. And another. My mind wanders and I forget where I am. I forget the color of your eyes. I forget to readjust the wheel. The semi tries to swerve at the last second, but its too late. Horns blare, and my focus is recaptured. I clench my teeth, preparing to face the inevitable. I taste blood. I breathe in, and remember the color of your eyes. I breathe out and bite clean through. Fade to black.
