Before I Descend into Darkness...A Poem by Mason
Before I descend into darkness,
I only wish that you light a candle. But I go alone this time, without your light, without your warmth, and I descend into darkness. Do not feel bad, I do not resent you. Do not ask forgiveness, I do not blame you. You have done enough. It would be selfish of me to expect this of you. I know you may not be here all the time, or perhaps it is I who will not be there all the time. I have nothing to forgive you for, you've done naught wrong, but I beg yours, for I feel I have pressured you, and caused you to think that you need be here. But it is okay, for the darkness can never consume me, so long as you are here, not always, not forever, I would not ask this of you, but just sometimes, now and then, as long as you can continue to remind me. Remind me of your light, your warmth, and then I can descend into the darkness, unafraid. © 2014 Mason |
