                        Fear has gripped the proud,
torn the smile off the poster
and left it naked on the ground,
where it has been stepped on three times.

                        From our vantage
the smile is upside down –
                        corners of the mouth descending.
Flat comfort on this cold day.

But lives turn on the breeze.
                        The smile will be lifted
                        from the pavement and flutter
                        to another place.

                        And from this new vantage
                        hope will be born.

Mark Pearce
I see this corresponding to the mortgage crisis which, amidst the disastrous losses, has enabled many young families to afford the home of their dreams.
