Annie's GliderA Poem by Mark PearceA sweet, springtime verse.
Annie’s Glider
by Mark Pearce (c) 2006
Join me on a Tuesday
As the sun sets in the sky,
As the wind blows, ever lightly,
As the cars g’rumbling by.
As the sunlight turns to orange,
As the crickets start to sing,
Take a trip on Annie’s gilder
In the front yard in the spring.
A lady bug for comp’ny
A Co-Cola in your hand.
A cyclist treads the sidewalk
To faint chorus of a band –
That’s been practicing on Tuesdays
Since October, year before.
Two more years they might get perfect.
More ‘an that, they’ll get real sore.
We’ll talk of war and discount sales
And what’s bothering Hurdley’s cows.
While swinging gently back and forth
As symmetry allows.
It’s quiet, nice and peaceful here.
A bird lights on the lawn.
The wonder of the world displayed –
Prompts a smiling yawn.
And when chawin’ on life...
That’s the sweet part.
