And So It Flows

And So It Flows

A Poem by Mark Pearce
"

Whatever floats your boat.

And So It Flows

I wrote a little boat
Into existence
It floated down the stream
At my insistence.

As it lurched and leaped and bobbed
Atop the water
I could sense the hints of joy
Within my daughter,

Who ran along the banks
To keep apace
The wind whipping wisps of hair
Across her face.

Stumbling on a root
She fell upon
Those tanned and knobby knees.
The boat sailed on.

I laughed, but deep within
I was alone.
To know, in few short years,
That she’d be grown.

My daughter, you see,
I wrote into existence.
But she refuses to remain a child,
At my insistence.

I'm interested about how readers feel when the piece makes the transition from the boat to the girl.
Is it a smooth transition? Does it bother the reader?

Creative. the little girl is so real falling down, tanned knees. And than the moment you say "I laughed, but deep within I was alone." It hits you with a reality of the fear of letting go, if she is true at all.

it's such a wonderful poem.

That is true of children whether they are part of your story line or real live creatures. What a wonderfully creative work. Thank you for sharing. Delightful.

Excellent! Such truth in the poem. Our little ones will not remain little for too long - though we may wish it.
Well done!
