The Note

A poem.

A drop of water
Had marred the note.
It must have been raining
That sunny day.

“I’m happy without you,”
Is what she wrote.
No one else knows
That it’s raining today.

This one is a gem.
Your words are so powerful that I can picture the scene. I love the fact that it is less than 10 lines...or else you wouldn't have submitted it and I perhaps would've never stumbled upon this. But the way it ends, I'm left longing for more.

"I'm happy without you,"Is what she wrote.

Could be that she didn't mean it. Could be that they will get back together again. Could or could not be anything. Or maybe nothing.
See how this write has affected me?
Very effective piece. Just what I was looking for on the contest. One of my personal favorites.
This is an excellent write.
Thank you so for submitting it in the Lonely Contest.

Awe-Mark, this is so sad. Such few words and yet a powerful impact on your readers. Well done and well thought out.

The distillation of a relationship ended...your choice in phrasing takes on a modern zen-like quality. "No one else knows / That it's raining today."

short and sweet with a lot of back story...but the fact that you didn't include it is great!
