Decaying Leaves

Decaying Leaves

A Poem by Mary Bosworth

Air snaps
Trees divorce themselves
From their leaves
Framed on bare-boned canvas
Summer succumbs
Stainless steel rosary
Clenched in her palm

Intrusion
Never her intention
Her suns devoted
To the solemn study of trees
She weeps her season
In decaying leaves

Love the imagery, this is a perfect depiction of summer giving way to fall. I really enjoyed the structure of the poem, pauses in just the right places.

True! It almost seems like trees part from all they bear with a heavy heart when fall comes. Neat and small.

A fine expressive, visually scenic in a metaphoric sense of the Summer season's demise and the onset of Autumn !

I really liked these lines. I never really thought of Autumn as decay, but I like it better than Spring, so that may be why.

That last stanza was very special. It had my mind flowing in a way that I can only describe as transcendent. I dont even know what you meant - or did you even know? The mystery of poetry - but its a powerful metaphor, the suns devoted to the solemn study of trees. Essentially isn't that what it is, in a sense? The suns the crafter and source of the energy which creates trees. Beautifully written.
