Street Lamp

Street Lamp

A Poem by Mary Bosworth

Voices coagulating into agreement
and silences darkening into oblivion
as closing pubs vomit their crowds
into dimly lit streets -
tired journeys breaking to a halt!

You are intrinsically sad
as a street lamp touches the tips
of graveyard headstones
through the shade of dark forest trees.

All horizons
dumbstruck as men
watching, passively, the crevice
of every secret exchange
between man and his environment.

sheds light in the night. Takes aways all darkness of the night brings out morning light. In shades of the dark forest they run to get away from the savage scum.

I love the mysterious, somehow foreboding feeling behind this one. The street lamp for me seems to not be a source of hope, but an exposure to all the wrong that is done, past mistakes, and the shedding of light onto all the secrets we try to bury under heavy hearts.

Oh dark days light by them lamps I know that feeling. Them two blokes standing underneath planning to do something a bit shifty. But what takes me from the reading is rather than going and focusing on the possible ascpects of evil found in darkness we have the presence. Oh, Mary I love that presence , what is it? I am not sure and we could proabbily spends tow lifes tring to define it. sp shade of dark forests tress where that presence roams.

Enchatingly dark.

But I bought a lamp with me so I am sorted

Thankyou

you got me at "closing pubs vomit their crowds/into dimly lit streets"

and i was brought back to 1968...my freshman year in college...the downtown bars...the dimly lit streets.....and the smell of beer and vomit..."man and his environment" we tarnish it...we can't see the forest for the trees...but maybe we don't try hard enough.
