my hands are getting old

my hands are getting old

A Poem by Mary Bosworth

my hands are getting old
every vein now proudly stands to attention
as if I were a junkie
filling them
with living

they appear a little rough
like i never listened long enough
to the etiquette teacher
when she warned us
about ungloved hands and the
 harmful disaster associated with
too much sunlight
on pale, ivory skin...

My skin
has grown silent
mature
calloused
and scarred

call me vain
but I still think
it's pretty.

I like the clarity of this one. I like the title also, that's what made me decide to read it. You don't focus on aging other than your hands but that's enough. It says it all.

I loved the simplicity in this one, because there was still a lot of meaning behind it. Yes, we will age, that is part of being human, but it doesn't mean it is a bad thing, it means that we have more experiences and knowledge to be proud of.

We are all getting old and it can get very scary. But it is not how our skin changes but how our thinking and perception get through the time.

I think we all each a point that we understand that we cannot push rewind and we then feel kinda s**t. It is as it is.

Good Work :)

I worked in retail when I lived back east, and people often told me how pretty my hands were. It's incredible the costs we women go through to achieve "pretty", isn't it?

"every vein now proudly stands to attention
as if I were a junkie
filling them
with living"

...incredible lines, Mary!
